Military families like this Army soldier often face real challenges transitioning from service. Those challenges can become a crises when injuries are the cause. For this Army family, the beginning of life after service has not gone well, as the soldier has not yet received his VA Disability payment even though months have passed. The significant loss of income after discharge and the cost of relocating the family from Germany to Texas has drained their savings, and employment has been difficult to find due to his injuries and pandemic shutdowns. Covering just one month of housing for this family can turn their fortunes around and keep them on track to a successful future.
Backlogs in processing paperwork at the DOD's finance office has delayed the office from creating the retirement account for this Navy sailor. It has been several months, and the delay is now creating a situation where a smooth transition has become more challenging due to the financial strain from being unable to receive her benefits, benefits she earned in a career of service to our country. We are asking for a gift to help with housing and utility expenses to give her the stability she needs at this critical time.
The time when a military member transitions from service to civilian life can be one of great stress for military families. OH's programs and services seek to help provide stability during this critical transition period, especially when the unexpected arises, as was the case for this thrice deployed combat veteran and his family. Unexpected and expensive repairs for their home have led to a temporary financial strain for them as they had to contract out much of the work due to the soldier’s physical limitations. As a result, their utility bills piled up, and as winter approaches, they need to bring them current in order to prepare to heat their home. With your help, we can help this Bronze Star recipient and his family feel safe and warm as they continue on the path to a secure future after giving so much in service to our country.
