ANTI-POACHING RANGERS ON FOOT

Our Infantry Soldiers

These men and woman patrol vast areas on foot. In my days in the military, we were called infantry soldiers. Just imagine for a brief moment, doing foot patrols were lions, leopards, hyaenas, snakes, elephants and plenty more dangerous animals can kill you in a blink of an eye. Definitely, bottom of the food chain.

GAT Foundation empowers rangers and strengthens reserve protection with specialized training, vital gear, and focused assistance.

The responsibilities of a wildlife ranger can vary from day-to-day, and cover anything from park protection to law enforcement and community outreach. Some of the main activities that we fund for rangers include:

· Carrying out anti-poaching and anti-trafficking patrols.

· Locating and removing wildlife snares which pose threats to all wildlife.

· Collecting vital data on endangered species and their habitats.

· Responding to reports of wildlife crime and gathering intelligence on illegal activity.

· Working with communities to raise awareness and mitigate wildlife conflict.

Serving as a ranger extends beyond being just a job; it represents a dedicated calling and entails significant challenges:

· Current global statistics indicate that two rangers die each week while confronting heavily armed, well-organized poachers.

· Distressed animals, traumatized by human-wildlife conflict, may attack or react aggressively out of fear.

· Some community members have previously shown little regard for wildlife protection as a legitimate profession, resulting in discourteous treatment toward individuals in this field.

· Rangers face risks in tough landscapes, including extreme weather, long hours, limited communication, and slow access to help.

Unfortunately, wildlife rangers frequently lack sufficient resources and support, making it much harder for them to carry out their duties when facing organized, well-funded criminal groups and syndicates.

Weeks are spent away from their families while protecting our endangered species with no one protecting their families.

Each year, hundreds of rangers are injured or killed in the line of duty. Despite this, their commitment to safeguarding our natural heritage persists, but support is essential for their success.

Without rangers, critically endangered species such as elephants and rhinos would have little chance of survival in their natural habitats.

Anti-poaching rangers operate in some of the harshest and riskiest places on earth, taking on one of the most demanding roles imaginable. Their dedication drives them to safeguard wildlife around the clock, often facing challenging and dangerous circumstances on the front lines of conservation.

We must support these selfless individuals who put their lives on the line every day to protect endangered species.

In short, what do these men and woman need:

· Uniforms (for all weather conditions)

· Boots

· Communication Equipment

· Outsourced Specialized Training

· Daily Food Packs

· Hiking Gear, such as Backpacks

· Flashlights

· Support with Medical Bills

· And the list goes on….
