2026 IS STARTING OFF IN TE BEST POSSIBLE WAY

Baby Alexa

Many will remember Baby Alexa. Orphaned at about 10 months old a few years ago after her mother was poached, Alexa endured significant stress and developed colic and inappetence following her rescue. An endoscopy revealed that she suffered from stress-induced gastric ulcers, with sores extending up into her esophagus and mouth. Intensive treatment began immediately, and over time, Alexa began to heal—both physically and emotionally.

However, this is not a throwback post about Alexa; it is a celebration.

On New Year’s Day, Alexa gave birth to a very fluffy-eared little calf!

After sudden changes were noticed in her udder the day before Christmas, the team stayed on alert, as Alexa and Nico had mated exactly 16 months prior.

On New Year’s Eve, Alexa and her best friend Evie were nowhere to be seen, and when Evie appeared alone the next day, it was clear that the moment had arrived.

This morning, the carers and Anti-poaching team relocated Alexa in a dense area in the middle of the reserve, and at her feet was a tiny New Year's miracle.

Photos and confirmation of the calf’s gender are still pending, as the team prefers not to disturb the new mom and baby. For now, they will observe from a distance.
